World Breastfeeding Week, October 1-7, 2012
Understanding the Past, Planning the Future
More than 170 countries take part in World Breastfeeding Week. In Canada, we celebrate the event each year during the first week of October.
World Breastfeeding Week raises awareness about the importance of breastfeeding to improve the health of Mothers, babies, and children around the world. This year we had a Family Fair at the IWK on Sept 29, 2012 to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week! We also took part in the Quintesscence Challenge, which is a friendly competition to see if we can have the most babies latched on at the same time! We had great numbers this year! We had 91 Mom's and 95 babies nursing! Best numbers yet! Way to go Halifax! Thanks to the many volunteers who made this event a huge success!
